EAME attends IEMA GESA Event: Social Impact Assessment

EAME attended the recent IEMA Global Environmental and Social Assessment (GESA) seminar concerning Social Impact Assessment (SIA). Panellists from international lenders, consultants and developers explored recent SIA developments, challenges and approaches.  It was very interesting to heard views from different perspectives.

EAME is an environmental consultancy based in UK, Iraq and Guyana who offer a range of environmental services including Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), contaminated land risk assessment, investigation and remediation, geotechnical site investigations, metocean studies, environmental auditing and environmental monitoring. EAME has undertaken several SIAs in Iraq across a number of sectors including port, oil and gas, water and wastewater.

Iraq Britain Business Council’s (IBBC) Spring Conference

David Wells and Zainab Al-Ribhawi (Iraq Country Manager) were pleased to attend the Iraq Britain Business Council’s (IBBC) Spring Conference SME Forum, at the Royal Over-Seas League in London. Chaired by Richard Cotton, Commercial Adviser to IBBC, the event was held for Iraqi and British SMEs to discuss mutual business opportunities in Iraq. The forum covered multiple sectors including construction and engineering.

David commented ‘the event was a worthwhile exchange of knowledge and ideas as well as a good networking opportunity. We meet many new contacts as well as reaffirming existing ones’.

EAME appointed to advisory board of the planner & development journal

EAME is pleased to announce that its Managing Director, Steve Rowan, has been appointed to the advisory board of the Journal of the Planner and Development. This journal is published by the Center of Urban and Regional Planning for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad.

Steve commented ‘it is an honour to be appointed to the board and associated with the Journal. I think proper urban planning and regional strategic development plans are essential to the growth of Iraq. I get the sense that things are starting to progress in Iraq in a positive way from a development perspective’.

EAME attends British Expertise International Iraq Business Update

EAME recently attended the Iraq: Doing Business Update event held at the British Expertise international offices in London. UK Export Finance, Control Risks and Confluent Law each presented their on the ground experience of working and operating in Iraq.

The event was attended by David Wells, who has 8 years’ experience of working in Iraq. David commented ‘although, EAME has a lot of hard-won expertise in Iraq, it was interesting to hear other companies experiences. The event was also a good networking opportunity with individuals with a belief in Iraq’s future’.

EAME attends lunch with the Ambassador of Iraq

EAME were pleased to attend a lunch with the Ambassador of Iraq, H.E. Dr Salih Husain Ali, organised by Strategy International.  Discussions were mainly concerned with the recent Kuwait International Conference for the Reconstruction of Iraq following Iraq’s declared victory over Daesh as well as how UK companies can exploit trade opportunities. Companies in attendance included investment banks, training companies, tax advisory services and renewable energy companies.

EAME’s David Wells, Technical Director – Iraq Projects, commented ‘the event was an ideal showcase for the opportunities available in Iraq for British businesses and for networking with like-minded companies. Although it is a hard and difficult market to operate and be successful in, EAME has provided that it is possible to deliver projects without comprising deliverables and quality’.   

EAME has been active in Iraq since 2010 and has completed over 30 projects in Iraq including Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA), Environmental Baseline Surveys, metocean studies and contaminated land site investigations for numerous international oil companies, funders, EPC contractors, property and infrastructure developers.’

EAME MD Attends GIPEX 2018

Guyana’s International Petroleum Exhibition (GIPEX 2018) is an important initiative to promote Guyana’s Petroleum Sector. GIPEX presents the investors a great way to explore the huge potential of this historic country. The event will lay the foundation to establish a dynamic relationship between the Minister of Natural Resources and the Private Sector with full co-operation from other Government Departments, all working to make Guyana a favourable and pro-business destination, a pre-requisite for boosting economic activities and achieving development objectives.

Developing Guyana – A round table discussion

EAME’s Managing Director, Steve Rowan, was recently invited, by the Guyana Hemp Association, to participate in a round table discussion concerning the emerging hemp industry in Guyana, it’s impact on youth employment, the Green agenda and Guyana’s long-term development in a changing global economic environment.

EAME is currently working with a local agricultural company, international hemp organisation and the Guyana Hemp Association to bring full scale hemp farming to Guyana, with a view to the country becoming a major manufacturer of hemp based industrial products.  Hemp can be 100% utilised to produce a vast range of industrial products used in automotive, construction, home-ware, textile, tech and pharmaceutical sectors.  Its growth and usage is a major contributor to sustainable development objectives.

EAME has been involved with various infrastructure developments in Guyana since 2016 after it was identified as an emerging market with whom EAME could develop long-standing relationships and alliances.
